*Cue gale force winds hitting the van the entire night into this morning*
Me – *Sleepily swats Morgan* “What’s that rattling? Did we leave the butter container on the roof again?”
*Morgan grunts, realizing it is indeed the butter container on the roof just rapping away and goes to retrieve it in his skivvies*
*Cue time to get up*
We got around rather early and what a site it was to which to wake up. It was extremely windy, but it was SUNNY!!! We were so grateful, as you can tell.
We got on the road and headed west toward Arnarstapi, and we looked up a few places to stop along the way. An unintended stop, our curiosity was piqued by a sign for Raudfeldar-Canyon.Legend has it there were two brothers (one half-human, half-troll) with two daughters and two sons born to the other brother. One day the cousins got into a tiff and one of the sons pushed one of the daughters onto a glacier. She is said to have floated all the way to Greenland, unharmed. The father of the daughter was so angry he killed both the brothers, one being pushed into this canyon. It’s understood the half-troll father still looks over this canyon to this day. Not to mention it was really fun to explore…

We kept going into Arnarstapi, which was a cute little town. Due to no public restrooms, this was a quick visit. Haha.
We headed to the Snaefellsnes National Park which I highly recommend. It was awesome. We saw Mt. Snaefellsjokull which is glacier-capped. There were also multiple calderas to look at along with really interesting rock features including basalt and sandstone. They even had a bird nesting site (mainly seagulls) on the side of the cliff.

They also had rock beaches just a short drive down the road which were very nice (definitely cold though!!!).
If you continued down the road about 20 minutes north, there was a cool spot next the lighthouse dubbed “Hole in the Rock”, another popular nesting area for birds.
We got into camp early in Grundsforjur, and it was nap time. We took a solid two hour nap, made some dinner, and read while taking in the view from our campsite. I’m a big fan of Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and part of the movie was shot here. I’m currently nerding out, big time.Well, I’m going to get some reading in now. Thanks for reading my ramblings!!
